Blockchain: Exim Bank signs MoU with BRICS development banks

  • On August 12, 2018, Exim Bank of India signed an MoU with member development banks of BRICS on collaboration in Blockchain Techonology.
  •  Exim Bank of India is the nominated member development bank under the BRICS Interbank Cooperation Mechanism.
  • Other member banks under this umbrella are: Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Economico e Social – BNDES, Brazil; State Corporation Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs – Vnesh economic Bank, Russia; China Development Bank Corporation, and Development Bank of Southern Africa.

Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2018 passed; Allowing death sentence for rape of children below 12 years

  • On August 12, 2018, President Ram Nath Kovind has given assent to the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2018, that provides death penalty for convicts accused of raping girls below the age of 12 years.
  • It has been deemed to have come into force on the 21st day of April 2018.
  • It will further amend the Indian Penal Code, Indian Evidence Act 1872, the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.

Justice Mr Shah of Gujarat HC sworn in as Chief Justice of Patna HC

  • On 12th August 2018, Justice Mr Shah has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
  • He was the Judge of the Gujarat High Court
  • Justice Shah enrolled as an advocate of the Gujarat High Court in 1982.
  • He became the Judge of the Gujarat High Court on 7th March 2004, and confirmed as the Permanent Judge on 22nd June 2005.

Google Launches Video Q and A App Cameos Specially for Celebrities

  • On 12th August 2018, the Google launched an App that allows people to answer questions about themselves and then share their answers directly on Google.
  • With the Cameos app, famous personalities can address fans questions in their voice, instead of leaving the answers to the other websites.

NITI Aayog Hosts Investors Conference in Andaman and Nicobar, and Lakshadweep Islands

  • On 12th August 2018, Niti Aayog Conference was inaugurated by Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog.
  • The 11 Anchor Tourism Projects are proposed to be implemented with the Private Sector Participation under the suitable risk-sharing through open-competitive binding.
