Ahmedabad Scientists discover new Exoplanet, EPIC 600 Light Years away

  • Researchers from the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad have discovered a new Exoplanet.

  • The Planet is 6 times larger than the earth and revolves around a Sun like star which is about 600 light years away from us.

  • Both the Planet and Star have been named EPIC.

  • The research team was led by PRL’s Abhijit Chakraborty.

Ten new Iconic sites selected under Phase-III of Swachh Iconic Phases of Swacchh Bharat Mission

  • Ten Iconic Sites have been selected under Phase-III of the Flagship Project Swachh Iconic Places (SIP) of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

  • The 10 new sites under Phase-III join the 20 already selected under Phases I and II.

  • The Mission is to select certain iconic sites and monuments in India, and to tie up with the PSUs and corporates for their support under their CSR Programmes.

Trump, Kim sign the Agreement on complete denuclearization after the Historic Summit

  • US President Donald Trump and North Korean Chief, Kim Jong Un have signed an agreement in which North Korea commits to complete denuclearization.

  • The announcement came after maiden talks between the Two Nations at Singapore’s Sentosa Island.

  • The United States will provide “Security Guarantees” to North Korea.

  • Both Nations also committed to Establish Renewed Relations.

India Bags 7 Medals at the Umankhanov Memorial Boxing Tournament in Russia

  • Indian pugilists won 7 medals at the Umankhanov Memorial Boxing Tournament in Russia.

  • India bagged only 1 Gold Medal by Saweety Bohra in the 75 Kg Category.

  • Boora Won gold in the Women’s Boxing beating Russia Anna Anfinogenova after a tough fight.

  • India’s Medal Haul at the Tournament included 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze Medals.

NITI Aayog select 3000 more schools for Atal Tinkering Labs

  • NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) has launched 3000 Additional Schools for the establishment of Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL).

  • The total number of schools that come under the ATL Programme is 5441.

  • Selected Schools will receive 20 Lakhs over next five years.

  • This will help in nurturing innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among secondary school children across the country.

  • The main aim of the Programme is to establish ATL in each district of India.
