IISER develops a new device to detect and remove Arsenic from water: Arsenic Sensor and Removal Media
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in collaboration with private company has developed a new device called as Arsenic Sensor and Removal Media to detect and make it safe and usable by the households.
The device is easy to use, cost- effective and has simple installation process.
It is capable of sensing soluble arsenic which cannot be easily detected and removed.
Commerce Ministry establishes Directorate General of Trade Remedies
Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a Notification for the creation of Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) in Department of Commerce.
The DGTR is an Apex National Authority for Administrating all trade remedial measures including anti-dumping and safeguard measures.
This will serve as Multi-Service Organizations drawing upon the skill-set of various officers from various ministries in the field of International Trades, Customs, Revenue, Finance, Economics, Costing and Law.
This will result in saving 49 Posts to Government on account of merging DGAD and DGS.
This Establishment will be in line with Government’s Goal of “Minimum Government Maximum Governance”.
Gujarat Government Launches Free Treatment Scheme for Road Accident Victims
The Gujarat Government launches a free treatment scheme for the road accident victims on 18th May 2018.
The State Government will bear all the medical expenses up to Rs 50, 000/- for each victim in the state for the first 48 Hours.
The Government would reimburse the amount to the concerned hospital.
SC approves Centre’s draft Cauvery Management Scheme:
The Supreme Court has approved the Centre’s draft Cauvery Management Scheme for smooth distribution of Cauvery river water among the Southern States on 18th May 2018.
The ruling was passed by three- judge bench comprising of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, and Justices AM Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud.
The bench rejected the suggestions of Karnataka and Kerala Governments over the scheme, terming them as devoid of merits.
The Court also dismissed Tamil Nadu’s plea seeking initiation of contempt against the Centre for non-finalization of Cauvery Scheme.
Gina Haspel confirms as first-female director of CIA
The US Senate confirmed Gina Haspel as the First Female Director of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on 17th May 2018.
Haspel’s Nomination was confirmed in 54-45 Votes.
She was previously serving as the Deputy Director under former CIA Director Mike Pompeo in the beginning of Trump’s Administration.
Uttam Paccharne appointed as the Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi
Uttam Paccharne on 17th May 2018 was appointed as the new Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi.
His appointment was approved by the President Ram Nath Kovind. Uttam Paccharne is a well-known artist and sculptor.
Paccharne will hold the office for three years term from the date of assuming the charge of the office.
