World’s First Floating Nuclear Power Station

  • Russia has unveiled the world’s first floating nuclear power station to meet its growing electricity needs.

  • The ship holds two 35 Megawatt Nuclear Reactors that can produce enough electricity to power a a town of 20, 000 residents.

  • It will be primarily used to power oil rigs as Russia pushes further north into the Arctic to drill for oil and gas and needs electricity in far-flung locations.

Shoplifters won Palmed’ Or 2018

  • The Japanese Family Drama Shoplifters has received a coveted award for the best film, Palmed’Or, at the Cannes Film Festival.

  • The Drama has been flagged as a modest masterpiece from a veteran Filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-da that centers on a small-time thief who takes a young girl home to his family.

  • The drama is known to be as the “Highest Prize” awarded at the Cannes Film Festival.

Jagriti Yatra won Charity Award in the UK

  • Jagriti Yatra, Indian Charity Organization has won an Award in London.

  • This organization organizes train journeys to understand and build India of smaller towns and villages.

  • It was among the series of worldwide charities and individuals recognized for their impact on their communities at the Asian Voice Charity Awards.

  • It organizes 15 days train journey, covering 800 Km for 400 change-makers across India every year.

Netherlands Prime Minister soon to visit India

  • Prime Minister of Netherlands, Mark Rutte is going to visit India on May 24 and 25 with an aim to boost economic and political cooperation between the two countries.

  • This is Rutte’s second visit to India since June 2015 but the first after being re-elected as Prime Minister in 2017.

  • Netherlands is the 5th Largest Investor in India with a cumulative investment of $23 Billion from 2000 to Dec 2017.

Anil Kumar Jha appointed as CMD of Coal India Ltd.

  • Anil Kumar Jha has been appointed as the Chairman-Cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Coal India Limited.

  • Anil Kumar is presently the CMD of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd.

  • Anil Kumar will replace the acting Chairman Suresh Kumar, an IAS Officer who has been holding the post of Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Coal Ltd.

  • CIL is the State-Owned Coal Mining Company headquartered in Kolkata.
