IIT Kanpur sets up India’s first advisory centre for Energy Regulation

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has set up India’s first Centre of Energy Regulation (CER).

  • This has been done with the help of the Government of United Kingdom.

  • The aim of the centre is to provide independent advisory on policy and regulatory matters in the power and energy sector.

India takes US to WTO over steel, aluminium duties

  • India has dragged the US to World Trade Organization’s (WTO) dispute settlement mechanism over the imposition of import duties on steel and aluminium.

  • India has stated that the decision will put an impact the exports of these products to the US and it is not in the compliance with the global trade norms.

  • On 9th March, Donald Trump imposed heavy tariffs on imported steel and aluminium items, this move has sparked fears of a Global Trade War.

India is ranked as 6th most “Wealthiest Country” with a total wealth of $8, 320 Billion

  • New World Health reported that the India ranks the 6th most wealthiest country in the world, with a total wealth of $8, 320 Billion.

  • It has been found that the US is the wealthiest country with a total wealth of $64, 584 Billion, followed by China ($24, 803 Billion) and Japan ($19, 522 Billion).

  • The Total Wealth refers to the private wealth held by all the Individuals living in each country/ city. It excludes government funds from its figures.

  • On the list, UK ranks 4th ($9, 919 Billion), Germany 5th ($9, 960 Billion), France 7th ($6, 649 Billion), Canada 8th ($6, 393 Billion), Australia 9th ($6, 142 Billion), and Italy at 10th ($4, 276 Billion).

Nipah Virus outbreak in India

  • Nipah Virus has been detected in State Kerala said the State Health Department. The State has a high Fatality Rate and spreads mainly through the Pigs, Bats and Other Animals.

  • The virus has been found in the Blood and Body Fluid Samples of two persons who died in viral fever in the past fortnight in Kozikhode District indicating the presence of the Zoonotic Disease.

Russia Launches the World’s First Floating Nuclear Power Plant

  • Russia has launched the world’s first floating Nuclear Power Plant at port city of Murmansk. It is called as Akademik Lomonosov.

  • It is a 144- Metre Long Ship which has two modified KLT-40 Naval Propulsion Nuclear Reactors (each of 35 MW Capacity) together providing up to 70 MW of Electricity and 300 MW of Heat.

  • It is named after Russian Academician Mikhail Lomonosov.
