Highway Tunnel Dedicates to Nation in North Sikkim

  • On 9th June 2018, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Subhash Bhamre dedicated a highway tunnel at Theng near Chungthang in North Sikkim to the nation.

  • The tunnel will benefit the tourism and rapidly improve the growth of the state.

  • The Double – lane tunnel stretching 600 meters

Reserve Bank of India amends Gold Monetization Scheme to make it more attractive

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) made changes in the Gold Monetization Scheme (GMS) to make it more attractive.

  • The main objective of this scheme is to enable people to open a hassle- free gold deposit account.

  • The short-term deposits should be treated as Bank’s on-balance sheet liability.

  • These deposits will be made with the designated banks for a short period of time (1 – 3 years).

  • The Deposits are also allowed for broken periods (E.g 1 year and 3 months; 2 years and 4 months etc.

Indian Coast Guard Interceptor Ship Commissioned

  • The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) commissioned an interceptor boat- ICGS C-439 at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.

  • The ICGS C-439 was commissioned by Additional Director General K. Natarajan, Coast Guard Commander of Western Seaboard.

  • The ICGS C-439 is designed by the L&T Marine and Ship Design Division, which is an in-house facility of Larsen and Toubro Limited.

  • The vessel is 27. 4 m long with a displacement of 136 Tonnes. It can achieve a maximum speed of 45 Knots.

  • It is made up of full aluminium – alloy hull for reducing weight and is powered by twin power jet propulsion systems to enable quick response.

Intercontinental Cup: India lose to last group to New Zealand

  • India suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of New Zealand in their final league match of the Intercontinental Cup tournament in Mumbai.

  • With six points from two earlier games, the Indian Team stills holds a chance to enter the final to be played.

  • The Home team has beaten Chinese Taipei and Kenya. If Kenya beat Chinese Taipei, then it will be a complicated calculation to decide who plays in the final.

  • Since India has a goal difference of Plus 7 as against plus 1 of New Zealand, it has a big chance to make it to the Final.

Sports Ministry Approves Upward Revision of Pension to Meritorious Sports persons

  • Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Rathore approved the upward revision of pension to meritorious sports persons.

  • Under this reward scheme, the Rate of pension has been doubled of the existing rate of pension on winning medals in International Sports Events.
